Started as a writing journalist and art critic at Het Parool, also published in NRC Handelsblad, HP-De Tijd, Flash Art International, Lápiz España. Was from 2002 - 2015 columnist and essayist of Kunstbeeld and wrote essays for numerous catalogs.
As an interviewer, program maker, director and editor in chief of VPRO television, he made programs and documentaries about society, culture, history, politics, economics and science from 1991 - 2013. Programs including: Backlight, Beagle: In the wake of Darwin, Prima Vista, Late at night, RAM, Northern Lights, The New World, and The Fast Money.
IJsbrand started in 2014 as founder and director of the media and concept agency De Denkfabriek and also works as web editor for 360 Magazine, as a lecturer at IBIS / InHolland, as editor and tutor research journalism at VersPers / Small Stream Media and as advisor and journalist at ACED.
